Concrete turns to soil. From a prison cell to the raw earth of an isolated island.
The ground shifts. Sur-faces remember. The stark shift in landscape tells a story of transformation, of fragility and of contra-diction.
Dirt carries weight. It buries, it stains and corrupts. It also feeds, grows and holds life. Both at once.
Balaj’s installation moves through childhood memories that feel like they float just out of reach.
Some hit sharp and bright while others blur into mist. The memories brush against you, they’re impossible to hold or pin down but impossible to forget.
In DIRT, matter turns into memory.
At the opening, the exhibition unfolds through a live performance. Moving through moral grey zones,fast-paced and masked, nothing is left clean.
